Chapter 28 of 35
The Abyssal Grotto
563 words
Forty miles east of the Ash-Crag Canyons, the dense twilight of the Shadow-Veil Realm gave way to a desolate, mist-shrouded swamp. At its center, nestled inside a deep sinkhole surrounded by black petrified reeds, stood a shimmering wall of distorted air—the weakening outer barrier of the Abyssal Lotus Grotto.
Clone Twenty-One, the Star Seer, adjusted his silver astrolabe. "The outer spatial barrier is composed of five interlaced Golden-Core tier defensive runes. At its current decay rate, standard breaching would trigger a beacon signal to the three major sects of the Shadow-Veil Realm."
Standing beside him was Clone Twenty-Two, the Siege Breaker—a towering, faceless juggernaut clad in slate-grey titan plate, carrying two massive, gravity-inscribed war-hammers. To his left hovered Clone Eleven, the Void Weaver, wrapped in translucent spatial cloaks.
Through their eyes, Lylin sat upon his obsidian throne in the Sinkhole Sanctuary, thirty miles beneath the Azure Cloud Domain.
"Void Weaver, insulate the perimeter with a localized spatial boundary," Lylin commanded across the inter-realm bridge. "Siege Breaker, shatter the core node directly. Fate Weaver, mask the karmic shockwave."
Across the dimensional divide, Clone Twenty (the Fate Weaver) raised her silver shears, severing the spiritual threads connecting the grotto’s aura to the high heavens. Simultaneously, Clone Eleven expanded a sphere of dark spatial mist, swallowing the entire swamp in absolute silence.
Clone Twenty-Two took a heavy step forward. The ground groaned beneath his boots as he raised both war-hammers high into the air.
FORTRESS CRUSH.
The war-hammers struck the distorted air with the force of a collapsing mountain. A violent, silent shockwave radiated outward, but the spatial insulation trapped every vibration within the sphere. The five Golden-Core runes cracked, fractured, and shattered into harmless sparkles of light like fragile glass.
The ancient barrier dissolved, revealing a narrow stone stairway descending into an underground paradise.
Inside the grotto, the air was saturated with liquid spiritual energy three times denser than the Sinkhole Sanctuary. At the center of a subterranean jade pool bloomed a single, dark-purple lotus with nine glowing petals—the Nine-Leaf Abyssal Lotus, a heaven-grade treasure capable of granting an instant, flawless breakthrough from Foundation Establishment to the Golden Core Realm.
SYSTEM NOTICE:
HEAVEN-GRADE RESOURCE DETECTED: NINE-LEAF ABYSSAL LOTUS.
ANCIENT GROTTO SECURED: NO BEACON TRIGGERED.
ENERGY ABSORPTION VALUE: +3,000 SYSTEM UNITS.
Before Clone Twenty-One could reach for the lotus, Clone Sixteen (the Boundary Tracker) materialized from the mist.
"Host," the Tracker reported calmly. "A reconnaissance team from the Shadow-Veil Realm's highest power—the Nether-Frost Sect—has just crossed the outer edge of the swamp. Three Late-Stage Foundation Establishment elders leading twenty elite disciples. They detected the natural decay of the barrier before our arrival."
Thirty miles away, a dark, cold smile touched Lylin’s lips.
"We have the location, the treasure, and the array," Lylin stated softly, his voice echoing through his vast subterranean hall. "Assassin, Soul Collector, Beast Master—ambush them at the canyon pass. Leave no survivors, harvest their souls, and let the Nether-Frost Sect believe the grotto collapsed into a spatial rift."
SYSTEM NOTIFICATION:
OPERATION AUTHORIZED: NETHER-FROST AMBUSH.
DEPLOYING UNITS: CLONES 3, 18, 23.
RESOURCES HARVESTED: LOTUS SECURED FOR HOST'S GOLDEN CORE BREAKTHROUGH.
Back in his sanctuary, Lylin reached out, pulling the energy signature of the Nine-Leaf Abyssal Lotus directly across the spatial bridge. The web of his unseen empire was no longer just collecting spirit-stones and governing mortal towns—it was hunting the treasures of the gods.
