Chapter 3 of 3
Chapter 3: The Unbending Broken Flower
1.8k words
Rain lashed against the granite walls of the fortress, washing away the scent of pine but failing to clean the tension gripping the air.
Inside the stone corridors, silence reigned, save for the soft, rhythmic patter of bare feet on cold stone.
Jeon Jungkook walked with a heavy, deliberate stride that made the wooden floorboards groan under his boots. His massive shoulders were tense, his mind locked in a battle against the rising unease of the night.
A sweet, delicate fragrance drifted from the side parlor, cutting through the damp chill.
Fresh roses.
Jimin stepped into the hallway, holding a wooden tray filled with dried lavender and clean linen bandages. His soft, golden eyes blinked up at the True Alpha, wide with an innocent sort of reverence that most omegas wore like armor in this brutal pack house.
His pale, perfect skin glowed in the torchlight, and he offered a gentle, submissive smile that usually calmed the most savage alphas.
He bowed low, his small frame trembling slightly under the oppressive weight of Jungkook’s dominant aura, which always saturated the air like a physical pressure.
"Alpha Jeon," Jimin whispered, his voice like the rustle of silk in a quiet room.
"You should be in the inner sanctum, Jimin," Jungkook rumbled, his voice dropping to a low, gravelly vibration that sent a visible shiver down the smaller omega's spine.
Clutching the wooden tray tighter against his chest, Jimin kept his eyes respectfully lowered.
"I wanted to ensure the healers had fresh supplies, Alpha. But... the border guards just sent word."
An ominous silence fell between them, heavy and suffocating.
Jungkook’s jaw tightened, a thick vein pulsing near his temple as his inner wolf stirred, catching a strange, foreign scent carried on the wet wind from the eastern gates.
"What did they find?" Jungkook demanded, his hands clenching into tight, leather-gloved fists at his sides.
"A rogue," Jimin murmured, his scent of sweet roses turning slightly sour with genuine fear. "They say he crossed the eastern boundary. He is wounded, Alpha. But he... he does not smell like a normal wolf."
Without another word, Jungkook pushed past the sweet-scented omega, his heavy boots clicking sharply against the stone as he headed toward the iron gates.
Jimin watched him go, a silent prayer whispering from his lips, his pure, innocent heart aching for whatever poor soul had dared to trespass into the True Alpha’s unforgiving domain.
---
Cold wind whipped at Jungkook’s face as he breached the heavy oak doors, stepping out into the dark, whispering forest.
Lightning fractured the black sky, casting brief, skeletal shadows across the towering pines.
He didn't need the light to guide him through the dense terrain.
His senses, heightened by the raw dominance of his True Alpha lineage, locked onto a scent that made his skin prickle with an intensity he had never felt before.
Metallic and sharp, it cut through the rain.
Silver blood.
Only a select few carried the curse of silver blood, a rare lineage whispered to be tied to the oldest, most dangerous magic of the realm.
Jungkook picked up his pace, his boots sinking into the thick mud as he tore through the underbrush like a shadow.
Branches clawed at his chest, but he felt nothing, his focus entirely consumed by the strange, agonizing pull in his chest.
A low, warning growl rumbled in his throat, a primal sound that shook the very leaves around him.
Up ahead, the ruins of the ancient stone temple loomed like a broken crown against the stormy sky.
Scent of metallic sweetness was strongest here, thick and suffocating, driving his inner wolf into a frenzy of conflicting instincts.
Protect, the beast whispered, a dangerous, forbidden command that Jungkook instantly crushed with iron resolve.
He did not protect strangers.
His mother’s screaming face, ruined by the madness of a fated bond that had torn her mind apart, flashed behind his eyes, hardening his heart back into a block of solid ice.
---
Stepping through the arched entrance of the ruined temple, Jungkook stopped.
Slanted rain poured through the collapsed stone ceiling, pooling around a figure huddled against a fallen obsidian pillar.
This stranger was an omega, but he did not look like Jimin.
No soft scent of roses clung to him, and there was no submissive bowing of the head, no trembling plea for mercy.
Instead, the omega stood tall, his legs shaking under his weight but his posture remaining entirely unyielding as he forced himself to rise.
His clothes were shredded, soaked in mud and stained with brilliant, glowing smears of silver blood that ran from a deep gash on his pale shoulder.
In his right hand, he held a fractured obsidian dagger, its jagged edge catching the faint moonlight.
Jungkook’s breath caught in his throat, a sudden, violent jolt racking his entire body as his crimson eyes locked onto the stranger’s face.
Taehyung.
Sharp, angular features, a dusting of silver blood across his sharp cheekbone, and eyes that burned with a terrifying, golden defiance.
"Step back," Taehyung warned, his voice raspy but fierce, completely devoid of the whimpering submission Jungkook expected from his caste.
He did not drop his weapon.
"You are trespassing in my territory, omega," Jungkook said, his voice dropping to a dangerous, deadly quiet.
Slowly, the True Alpha took a step forward, his massive frame towering over the injured boy, radiating a heavy wave of dominant pressure.
Any normal omega would have collapsed to their knees, weeping and begging for release under such raw power.
Taehyung only gritted his teeth, his jaw locking as he absorbed the crushing weight of Jungkook's aura.
A single tear of physical strain slipped down his dirty cheek, but his golden eyes never wavered from Jungkook's face.
"I do not seek your mercy, True Alpha," Taehyung spat, his voice ringing clearly through the stone ruins.
"I demand asylum."
Asylum, not mercy.
Jungkook halted, a dark amusement warring with a sudden, terrifying surge of protectiveness that threatened to rip his control apart.
His wolf wanted to wrap around this broken, beautiful creature, to lick the silver blood from his wounds and tear apart whoever had dared to hurt him.
Such intense protectiveness contradicted every vow of isolation he had ever made.
He had to destroy this feeling before it destroyed him.
---
Anger, cold and sharp, replaced the momentary hesitation in Jungkook's chest.
He lunged forward with blinding speed, a dark blur in the rain.
Taehyung slashed out with the obsidian dagger, but his movements were slowed by blood loss and exhaustion.
Jungkook caught his wrist in an iron grip, squeezing until the bones clicked and the dagger clattered to the stone floor.
With his other hand, he grabbed Taehyung’s torn jacket, slamming him back against the cold stone pillar.
A gasp of pain escaped Taehyung's lips, his silver blood smearing onto Jungkook’s leather gloves.
Close up, the scent of him was intoxicating—like burnt vanilla and winter air, laced with the metallic tang of his blood.
It threatened to drown Jungkook’s senses, whispering promises of a connection he had sworn to never allow.
"You demand nothing from me," Jungkook growled, his face inches from Taehyung's, his crimson eyes glowing with a feral intensity.
"You are a stray. A prisoner. Nothing more."
Taehyung’s chest heaved against Jungkook’s hand, but he did not look down.
He looked straight into the crimson eyes of the monster, his lips curling into a defiant, bloody smirk.
"Then lock me up," Taehyung whispered, his breath hot against Jungkook’s jaw.
"But we both know you won't kill me."
This absolute certainty in the omega's voice infuriated Jungkook, mostly because it was true.
He couldn't kill him.
Every instinct he possessed screamed to keep him safe, to keep him close, even if it meant locking him in the dark.
Roughly, Jungkook spun him around, pinning his arms behind his back with enough force to make him gasp.
He dragged him out of the ruins, ignoring the rain that tried to wash away the scent of silver blood clinging to his hands.
---
Returning to the pack house, Jungkook marched through the lower courtyard, his grip on Taehyung’s wrists unyielding.
A few sentries moved to assist, but a single, vicious snap of Jungkook's jaw sent them scrambling back in terror.
Nobody dared interfere when the True Alpha was in this state.
Near the entrance to the lower levels, Jimin stood waiting, his innocent face pale with shock as he saw the state of the prisoner.
He took a step forward, his hands trembling as he caught the heavy scent of silver blood.
"Alpha... he is bleeding," Jimin softly pleaded, his rose scent flaring with anxiety.
"Let me tend to his wounds. He will die in the damp air."
"Stay back, Jimin," Jungkook barked, his voice carrying the absolute authority of his rank.
Jimin winced, stepping back instantly, his eyes wide with sorrow as he looked at the battered but defiant Taehyung.
Taehyung didn't even glance at the gentle omega, keeping his eyes locked straight ahead, his chin held high despite the blood dripping down his arm.
Jungkook dragged him down the winding stone stairs, leaving the sweet scent of roses behind as they descended into the cold, damp dark of the subterranean levels.
---
Moisture dripped from the ceiling of the obsidian dungeons, echoing like a slow, heavy heartbeat.
These cells were reserved for the worst traitors, reinforced with dark stone that suppressed a wolf’s natural strength.
Jungkook unlocked the heaviest iron door, the hinges screeching in protest against the silence.
He threw Taehyung inside, the omega stumbling before catching himself against the rough stone wall.
Silver blood smeared against the dark obsidian, shining faintly in the dim torchlight.
Jungkook stood in the doorway, his massive frame blocking the only exit, his heart hammering against his ribs like a trapped beast.
An unbearable urge to clean his wounds clawed at his chest.
He wanted to step inside, to tear down these bars and hold him.
Instead, he forced his face into a mask of pure, unfeeling stone, clutching the cold iron handle of the door.
"You will rot here until I decide what to do with you," Jungkook said, his voice cold enough to freeze the air between them.
Taehyung slowly turned around, leaning his back against the wet wall, his silver-stained clothes clinging to his bruised skin.
Defiance burned in his posture.
As the iron cell door slams shut, Taehyung smiles faintly and whispers, 'You can lock me away, True Alpha, but you cannot lock out the curse already running through your veins.'
