Chapter 27 of 31
Chapter 27: A Direct Negotiation with the CEO

Soot and ash drifted through the ruined streets of Ironreach, painting the once-bustling dwarven district in shades of gray.
Air grew heavy, thick with the scent of ozone and expensive, suffocating incense. It felt like the atmospheric pressure had suddenly tripled, forcing the remaining dwarven survivors to drop to their knees, clutching their chests.
High above, a figure descended from the clouds as if stepping down a grand, invisible staircase.
Six wings of spun gold folded neatly behind his back, glittering with a harsh, blinding intensity that hurt to look at directly. This was Arbiter Michael, a being who radiated the pure, unadulterated arrogance of a middle manager who had just been handed absolute power over a regional branch.
Elias adjusted his collar, his dirty-blonde hair whipping around his face in the divine updraft. Beside him, Jasper stood like a mountain of dark granite, his massive shoulders tense, his hand resting on the hilt of his colossal dark-steel greatsword.
"Great," Jasper muttered, his voice a low, gravelly rumble that barely carried over the whistling wind. "Another executive descending from head office to tell us we're not meeting our key performance indicators."
Elias sighed, his analytical eyes already tracking the subtle ripples of light vibrating around the Arbiter's body. "Just let me do the talking, Jas. You know how these corporate types get when you don't use their buzzwords."
Michael touched down on the cracked cobblestones with a soft, metallic click of his golden greaves. He didn't look at the corpses of the paladins Jasper had just pulverized, nor did he look at the burning tavern nearby. His gaze was fixed entirely on the two S-Tier anomalies standing before him.
"Greetings, localized disruptions," Michael said, his voice echoing with a polite, hollow resonance that made Elias’s skin crawl. "I am Arbiter Michael. I oversee the systemic balance of the 5 Heavenly Realms. It seems we have a critical misalignment in our divine hierarchy."
Elias took a slow step forward, keeping his hands open and visible. He wore his most pleasant, completely fake customer-service smile—the one he used to wear back in Tokyo when a client was screaming about a late shipment.
"We're always open to feedback, Arbiter," Elias said, his voice smooth and non-threatening. "Perhaps we can sit down over a pint of dwarven ale and discuss how to optimize our synergy?"
Michael did not smile. His eyes were solid pools of brilliant gold, devoid of any human warmth or understanding.
"There is no room for synergy with anomalous entities," Michael replied coldly. "Your very existence violates the prime directive of the pantheon. Light and Dark magic are meant to remain balanced, opposing forces. By uniting, you threaten to destabilize the entire divine framework. However, the High Arbiters are merciful. We are prepared to offer you a transition package."
Jasper scoffed, his massive frame shifting as a faint, dark vapor began to curl around his boots. "A transition package? Let me guess. We get laid off?"
Michael nodded once, a gesture of absolute, unearned authority. "You will surrender your physical vessels immediately. Your souls will be integrated into the Divine Core, where your S-Tier magics will be harvested to fuel the barrier of the upper realms for the next millennium. It is a highly prestigious position."
Elias kept his smile plastered on his face, though a dangerous, cold anger began to simmer in his chest. The corporate trauma of his past life flared up, screaming at him. This was exactly how his old company had treated him—demanding his entire life, his health, and his sanity, all for the 'prestige' of the company's bottom line.
"And if we decline this highly prestigious opportunity?" Elias asked, his tone dripping with artificial sweetness.
Michael's golden wings flared slightly, sending a wave of heat rippling through the street. "Then I will systematically purge every settlement you have ever visited. Ironreach will be reduced to glass by nightfall. The human kingdoms you traversed will follow. I will erase your entire history from this realm, leaving nothing but barren waste. The choice is yours. Quiet integration, or total liquidation."
Jasper’s grip on his greatsword tightened, the dark metal groaning under the immense pressure of his S-Tier Dark magic. He looked at Elias, waiting for the word.
Elias, however, did not flinch. Instead, he let his head drop, pretending to contemplate the terrible offer.
Behind his closed eyes, his analytical mind went into overdrive. His S-Tier Light magic allowed his brain to process information at light-speed, turning the world around him into a slow-motion spreadsheet.
*Analyzing target,* Elias thought, his consciousness slicing through the Arbiter's divine aura like a scalpel.
*Mana density: Extremely high. Defensive barrier: Concentrated heavily around his torso and chest, projecting outward in a sphere. Casting speed: Instantaneous for light-based spells. But look at his stance.*
*Because he hovers slightly above the ground, his physical weight distribution is completely unanchored. He has no grounding. If we hit him with a sudden vertical force, his defensive barrier will lag as his body tries to compensate for the loss of equilibrium.*
*His left eye also twitches slightly every three seconds—a minor lag in his divine perception, likely due to the sheer volume of sensory data he is processing from the surrounding realm. That is our window.*
Elias opened his eyes, his dirty-blonde hair casting a shadow over his face. He looked up, his expression a perfect mask of weary resignation.
"Alright, Michael," Elias said, taking another slow step forward, narrowing the distance between them to less than ten yards. "You win. We're tired of running. We just wanted to drink beer and live a quiet life, but it seems the board of directors always gets what they want. Let's discuss the integration process."
Michael’s golden eyes gleamed with smug satisfaction. "A wise decision. Approach and receive your integration."
Elias shifted his left shoulder by a fraction of an inch. It was a subtle, microscopic signal.
Jasper didn't hesitate. He knew that signal. It was the same gesture Elias used to make in the meeting room when they were about to completely derail a client's unreasonable demands.
Black lightning exploded from Jasper’s boots as he slammed his massive fist directly into the cobblestones.
"Gravity Well: Bottom Line!" Jasper roared.
Suddenly, the local gravity in a ten-foot radius around Michael multiplied by a thousandfold. The air itself seemed to turn to lead, pulling straight down with a deafening, localized crack of thunder.
Michael’s smug expression shattered as the crushing downward force seized his body, dragging him violently toward the earth. His elegant, floating posture buckled, his golden wings flaring wildly as his knees slammed into the stone.
In that split second of total disorientation, Elias became a blur of pure white light.
Photon energy erupted from the soles of his boots, launching him forward like a kinetic projectile. He bypassed Michael’s front-facing divine shield entirely, angling his trajectory through the Arbiter’s blind spot on the lower right flank.
White-hot, S-Tier Light magic condensed around Elias's right hand, forming a razor-thin, vibrating blade of pure, compressed photons.
"We decline the offer," Elias whispered.
With a clean, blindingly fast horizontal arc, Elias swung the light-blade upward, aiming directly for the deity's face.
Ssssssp.
The high-frequency blade sheared through Michael's passive divine barrier like hot shears through silk, whispering across the god's cheek.
Elias skidded to a halt ten yards behind the Arbiter, his light-blade dissipating into a shower of harmless, glowing embers.
Michael stood frozen, the localized gravity well finally dissipating as Jasper stood up, resting his massive sword back on his shoulder.
Slowly, the Arbiter raised a trembling, pristine hand to his face.
His fingers brushed against a thin, burning line on his right cheek.
Looking down, he stared at his fingertips, which were stained with a brilliant, glowing golden blood.
His expression, which had been so full of arrogant, corporate calm, twisted into a mask of absolute, genocidal rage.
