Chapter 3: Systemic Valuation of a Beast

Pain was a currency Nyanchi understood better than anyone. It was the price of admission, the cost of doing business, and the only true indicator of a transaction's weight.
Golden light flared from the fresh cut on her palm, defying the dim lighting of the cavern. It didn't just glow; it burned.
Mechanical words flashed across her vision in sharp, neon-blue characters, momentarily blinding her.
[System Notification: Political Alliance Secured.]
[Asset: Kaelen, Chief of the Silver Wolf Tribe. Valuation: Critical.]
[Unlocking Cultivation Pathway: Primal Spark Level 1.]
Heat, violent and absolute, flooded her veins. It felt as though someone had poured liquid copper directly into her bloodstream.
Gasps escaped her throat before she could clamp her jaw shut. She refused to scream in front of him. She refused to show any sign of vulnerability to a business partner who could easily crush her skull with one hand if he sensed weakness.
Muscles in her back seized as the foreign energy forced its way through her stagnant meridians. It was a hostile takeover of her biology. The primitive, fragile human body she had inherited was being forcibly restructured, optimized, and upgraded to match the harsh demands of this savage world.
Across from her, Kaelen froze. His silver tail lashed behind him, his yellow eyes widening until the golden irises seemed to swallow his pupils.
Blood stopped dripping from her hand.
Flesh, muscle, and skin began to knit together. The deep, jagged slice she had carved with the obsidian shard closed in a matter of seconds, leaving behind nothing but smooth, unblemished skin.
Stepping back, Kaelen hit the stone wall of the cave. His breath hitched, a low, rumbling growl of pure disbelief vibrating in his chest.
"Priestess magic," he whispered, his voice thick with an emotion she had never heard from him before. Reverence. Awe. Desperation.
Her mind, analytical even under the excruciating heat of the cultivation upgrade, instantly seized on his reaction. She processed his words, filing them away into her mental database.
This was not just healing. This was something ancient. Something lost.
Such a reaction from a battle-hardened chieftain meant one thing: this power was incredibly rare, highly valued, and desperately needed.
Closing her eyes for a brief second, Nyanchi rode out the final wave of the system's energy. When she opened them, her vision was sharper. She could see the individual dust motes floating in the air, could hear the faint drip of water deep within the cavern, and could smell the scent of pine, rain, and raw panic radiating off the massive wolf chieftain.
With a slow, deliberate movement, she raised her hand. She turned her palm over, showing him the pristine, unscarred flesh.
Every calculation in her head aligned. She had just gone from a fragile, captive female to an invaluable strategic asset.
Silence stretched between them, heavy and thick.
Inside her mind, she smiled. The system wanted her to be a passive womb, but she would use its own rewards to build a fortress around her heart. She would never let another person hold the power of life and death over her again. Her family in her past life had discarded her when her utility ran out; she would ensure her utility to Kaelen was so high, so irreplaceable, that he would sooner rip his own heart out than let her go.
"Your hand," Kaelen breathed, taking a tentative step forward. He reached out with a trembling claw, then pulled it back as if afraid his very touch might shatter the miracle before him. "The wounds of the ancestral pact do not heal. Not like this. Only the high priestesses of the ancient eras possessed the spark to mend flesh with a touch."
A cold, knowing smile touched Nyanchi's lips. She leaned back against the stone altar, crossing her arms to project absolute confidence.
"Let's call it a return on your investment, Chieftain," she said, her voice smooth, devoid of the pain she had just endured. "You agreed to an alliance. My system—my divinity—has recognized that agreement. Consider this a preview of what I can offer."
Leaning closer, Kaelen's eyes locked onto hers with a ferocity that would have terrified any other woman. "Our females... they are dying, Nyanchi. The curse of the Beast God of Ruin has poisoned our lands. Our cubs are born weak, their life force draining before they can even shift. If you have this power... if you can heal..."
Desperation was a beautiful thing to witness in an opponent. It made them predictable. It made them cheap.
Survival, she realized, was the ultimate currency in this savage realm. And she held the monopoly.
"I can do many things, Kaelen," she murmured, her tone dripping with calculated promise. "But power is never free. In my world, we have a saying: you get what you pay for. If you want my healing, if you want my divinity to save your dying tribe, you will obey my terms without question."
If he thought he could simply lock her away and use her as a breeding tool, he was sorely mistaken. She would hold his tribe's future hostage with every breath she took.
"What do you want?" he growled, the primal urge to dominate warring with the absolute necessity of her survival. He clenched his fists so hard his claws drew blood from his own palms.
Let him bleed, she thought. It kept him hungry. It kept him focused.
"Never question my decisions in front of your pack," Nyanchi demanded, her voice cutting through the damp air of the cave like a scalpel. "You are the muscle, Kaelen. I am the brain. If I tell you to move, you ask how fast. If I tell you to negotiate, you put away your claws. We are partners, but make no mistake—I hold the keys to your dynasty's survival."
Before Kaelen can speak, his second-in-command bursts into the cavern, screaming that the Crimson Viper Tribe has breached the northern border, carrying a cursed weapon that rots the flesh of anyone it cuts.
