Throughout the description of her escape, we get glimpses of what happened during the birthing ritual, where dragons watch the new children be brought into the world. By the end of the chapter: The black dragon, Nox, arrives at the ritual, seeing the aftermath. Rosella is gone and everyone is whispering rumors about how she betrayed her husband. Nobody notices him, other than the Queen herself. She remembers the old tales of the protector of the veil, king of dragons. Stories of him still being alive somewhere. In their time it was nothing but children's stories that only grandmothers told.
