The humid warmth of the bathroom was absolute, the entire space thick with a heavy, fragrant cloud of eucalyptus steam. After the long, lazy hours spent tangled in the bedroom blankets, a hot shower was the final ritual to fully wake up—and to completely wash away the lingering exhaustion of the move.
Paris stood under the rushing stream of water, her eyes closed as the heat beat down on her shoulders. The glass door clicked open smoothly, and Adam stepped into the enclosure behind her, bringing a brief brush of cool air before the shower's warmth claimed him too.
Without a word, he took the bar of soap from the ledge, working up a rich lather between his palms. He stepped closer, his chest pressing gently against her wet back as his hands found her shoulders. Paris let out a long, relaxed breath, her head tilting forward to give him room as his hands began to move in slow, firm circles down her back, massaging away the deep tension from a week of lifting heavy boxes.
"You're a lifesaver," she murmured, leaning back into his touch as the water cascaded over them both.
Adam leaned down, kissing the wet skin of her neck, his hands moving to rinse the soap away under the stream. "Just making sure my favorite person is taken care of."
They took turns rinsing off, sharing the small space with an easy, effortless familiarity that felt like second nature now. When the water was finally turned off, the sudden silence in the bathroom was peaceful. They wrapped themselves in oversized, fluffy towels, laughing as they wiped the fog off the mirror to brush their teeth side-by-side, their elbows bumping gently over the sink.
Back in the bedroom, the cool afternoon air felt incredible against their clean skin. Paris slid into a fresh, loose t-shirt, while Adam pulled on a clean pair of sweatpants. The bed had been hastily made earlier, and now it looked like the ultimate destination.
Adam climbed in first, propping himself up against the pillows, and Paris slid in right beside him. The sheets felt incredibly crisp and cool against their freshly showered skin. She curled into his side, resting her cheek against his chest, while Adam looped his arm around her waist, pulling her flush against him.
The scent of clean laundry and eucalyptus filled the room. With the curtains drawn and the house completely quiet, there was nothing left to do, nowhere else to be, and no more goodbyes to say. Within minutes, their breathing synchronized, slow and deep, as they drifted into a deep, peaceful sleep—completely fresh, completely content, and finally home.
