Chapter 5 of 5
The night together

Later that night, the loft was pitch dark except for the silvery moonlight spilling across the living room rug. They had moved from the couch down to the floor, tangled together under a heavy wool blanket. The TV played silently in the corner, but neither of them was watching. Paris had her head resting in the crook of Adam's shoulder, her fingers tracing slow, idle patterns against his shirt, feeling the steady beat of his heart.
"Do you ever want to just pack up and move to the coast?" Paris whispered into the quiet room. "Trade spreadsheets for an endless ocean and complete silence?"
Adam looked down at her with a soft smile in the shadows, gently tucking a stray lock of hair behind her ear. "Every time I have to sit through a budget review," he admitted honestly. "Though it wouldn't matter if we were on a beach or stuck in a crowded subway. Wherever we are, as long as it's with you, that's home."
Paris smiled, shifting upward to look into his eyes. She wrapped her arms around his neck, pulling him down as the rest of the world disappeared.
Later, they moved quietly to the warmth of the bed, the shift from quiet conversation to deep, effortless intimacy feeling as natural as breathing. Every touch was close and deliberate, the physical closeness matching the quiet devotion they shared. There was no rush, just the steady warmth of each other's skin, whispered words, and the slow, easy rhythm of being completely wrapped up in one another.
Long after the room had settled back into a peaceful stillness, they lay tangled in the sheets, Adam's arm around her waist and Paris resting her head against his chest. It was just another ordinary day, but wrapped up together in the quiet night, it was everything they needed.
