Flamboyant Frequencies

“Fine,” Daska bit out, the word sharp with a reluctant defiance. Her hand, trembling ever so slightly, went to the ornate clasp at the back of her uniform. The cold metal felt like a brand. “But if this doesn’t work, Brio, I’m holding you personally responsible for my public execution.” Brio’s face, etched with grime and fatigue, broke into a relieved grin. “Understood, Commander! Don’t worry, the crowd will be too busy screaming your new stage name to notice the guillotine.” “Stage name?” Daska scoffed, her brow arching. “Try ‘sacrificial lamb’.” Lekhan stepped forward, his eyes fixed on her. “Just… do it, Daska. We’re out of time.” His voice, usually a confident baritone, was raw with urgency. She nodded, inhaling a ragged breath. The clasp was a complex, magical mechanism, designed to hold against immense pressure. Discharging it required a specific, focused intent, a rejection of its very purpose. Daska closed her eyes, channeling every ounce of her frustration, every remembered slight, every suffocating moment under its spell. She remembered the stifled power, the suppressed magic, the endless ache. She poured it all into the binding, a silent, furious incantation of defiance. For a moment, nothing happened. Then, a low hum began, a vibrational thrum that started deep within the weave and spread, growing in pitch. A faint, golden light, trapped beneath her uniform, pulsed with increasing ferocity. The air around her grew heavy, crackling with static. Daska felt a strange, tingling sensation, like a thousand tiny needles piercing her skin, followed by a sudden, intense warmth. A sharp *crack* like a gunshot split the air. The hum peaked in a high, earsplitting shriek, then abruptly cut off. Heat surged out from her chest, making Daska gasp. The corset, no longer bound by its enchantments, disintegrated into a shower of glittering, golden dust that rained down around her. The sudden release was staggering, a physical blossoming in her lungs, a sudden, almost dizzying lightness. Her voice, unburdened, seemed to hum with untapped potential. But the uniform, stretched taut by the magical garment, had paid the price. The fine military-grade wool, already torn from the Dissonance attack, now hung in shreds, revealing far too much skin. The pristine white of her shirt was ripped, the dark outer jacket gaping open, exposing the curve of her chest, the delicate line of her collarbones, the faint flush of her skin. Her carefully cropped hair, now freed from its meticulous styling, fell in soft, dark waves around her face, framing eyes that blazed with renewed power. Lekhan stared, his earlier urgency momentarily forgotten, his gaze dropping to her exposed chest, then sweeping up to her face, a complex mixture of awe and something fiercely proprietary in his expression. Brio, however, was already in motion. “No, no, no! This won’t do!” he shrieked, already rummaging through a supply crate in the hastily constructed backstage area. “The whole point is to *distract* Zolok, not to get you arrested for indecency before you even sing a note! We need… flair! Panache! Something so utterly ridiculous it burns Zolok’s eyeballs out!” He emerged triumphant, holding up a garment that seemed to defy the laws of tasteful fashion. It was a one-piece bodysuit, crafted from shimmering, iridescent purple satin, adorned with aggressive, sequined shoulder pads that jutted out like alien wings. Rhinestones sparkled across every seam, catching the dim emergency lights. The neckline plunged daringly, and the hem ended high on the thigh, leaving the legs bare. It was clearly a backup dancer’s discarded costume, something designed for maximum visual impact and minimal coverage. “Brio, what in the name of the Vocal Sovereigns is *that*?” Daska asked, aghast, her vanity momentarily overcoming her stubborn pride. “Our ticket to the Center Stage!” Brio declared, shoving it into her hands. “It was confiscated from a particularly rebellious trainee last cycle. They called it the ‘Nebula Strut’. It’s… unforgettable. Now *hurry*! Zolok’s broadcast is already live!” Daska glared at the glittering monstrosity, then at Lekhan, who was doing his best to stifle a choking sound. With a frustrated sigh, she snatched the outfit and ducked behind a stack of empty crates. The fabric, surprisingly stretchy, clung to every curve, outlining her figure with an almost obscene fidelity. The neckline dipped low enough to make her blush, and the sequined shoulder pads were absurdly heavy. When she emerged, Lekhan’s jaw went slack. His eyes, usually so composed, flared with something hot and dangerous. He looked ready to throttle Brio. “It’s… functional,” Daska muttered, pulling self-consciously at the ridiculously high hem. “Let’s just get this over with.” They sprinted through the labyrinthine corridors, the distant, hypnotic drone of Zolok’s broadcast growing louder with every step. The main amphitheater doors loomed ahead, massive, reinforced steel. Daska didn’t hesitate. Channeling her newly unleashed power, she slammed her foot against the metal, a surge of pure, raw magic exploding from her. The doors buckled inward with a deafening *CRANG*, tearing from their hinges and flying across the stage with a shriek of tortured metal. The sight that greeted them was chilling. Thousands of Harmonian citizens, military commanders, and Vanguard recruits sat utterly still in the tiered seats, eyes glazed over, fixed on the colossal holographic image of Maestro Zolok floating above the stage. He stood at a control console, his hands conducting the invisible threads of a pervasive, mind-numbing frequency that pulsed through the air, vibrating through the very ground. His lips moved, speaking in a low, sonorous tone, the words lost beneath the hypnotic drone, yet their intent was clear: subjugation. On stage, several brainwashed guards, their faces vacant, moved to intercept the intruders. One, a hulking figure in ceremonial armor, lunged towards Daska. Lekhan moved like a blur. His hand shot out, grabbing the guard by the armored chest plate. With a guttural roar, Lekhan bodily *threw* the man off the stage, sending him sprawling into the orchestra pit with a clang of metal. He then snatched a live microphone from a stunned technician, his teeth bared. “You touch her,” Lekhan snarled, his voice, usually so perfectly modulated for the cameras, now a raw, unpolished rasp, amplified to fill the stadium, “and I will tear this entire stage apart with my bare hands.” Zolok, high above, merely smiled. A slow, chilling smile. His image flickered, then solidified, his voice, now amplified to an ear-splitting volume, boomed across the stadium, cutting through the mind-control hum. “Ah, Lekhan Voda. So dramatic. And so predictable. It seems the Vanguard’s precious lead singer has finally lost his mind… over a woman.” He laughed, a high, mocking sound that echoed through the arena. “Look closely, Harmonia! Your idol, compromised! He chose *her*! And now, for this unforgivable act of treason, I give you full permission. Tear them apart!”
