Chapter 11: Shattered Paradise

1.6k words

Cold wind whipped across the wooden deck, carrying the metallic scent of fresh blood. Marcel stood like a statue carved from dark stone, his broad shoulders blocking the horrific sight from Aya's eyes. "Don't look," he growled, his voice a low, vibrating rumble that vibrated against her chest. Trembling against his solid frame, Aya gripped the silk of his shirt, her heart hammering like a trapped bird. Darkness seemed to swallow the beautiful Maldives sunset, transforming their paradise into a gilded cage. Without another word, Marcel turned, scooping her into his massive arms with effortless, terrifying strength. Silently, he carried her inside the air-conditioned villa, kicking the glass door shut behind them. Locking the heavy deadbolts, his knuckles turned white with a rage so intense it radiated off him like heat from a furnace. "Is it... them?" Aya whispered, her voice cracking as he set her down on the edge of the massive king-sized bed. Kneeling before her, Marcel took her small, shaking hands in his giant, scarred palms. His dark eyes, usually so cold and calculating, burned with an obsessive, protective fire. "No one touches what is mine," he vowed, pressing a fierce, burning kiss to her knuckles. "I gave up my throne for you, Aya, but I did not forget how to kill." Shivering, she looked into his rugged, incredibly handsome face, finding a strange comfort in his dark promise. His jaw clenched, the sharp line of his chin tense as he scanned her face for any sign of injury. "You are safe here," he murmured, his thumb rubbing over her lower lip, pulling it down slightly. "I will burn the entire world to ashes before I let a single hand touch your skin." Tears welled in her eyes, but they weren't just from fear anymore. Deep, overwhelming love washed through her, mingling with the terrifying realization of how completely she belonged to him. Gently, he stood up, his tall, imposing figure casting a long shadow over her. He began to shed his clothes, his movements slow, deliberate, and hypnotic. First went his linen shirt, revealing the hard, heavily tattooed planes of his chest and back. Every scar on his tanned skin told a story of survival, of a man who had conquered every demon in his path. Aya watched him, her breath catching in her throat as her heart did a frantic flutter. "Marcel..." she breathed, her voice a plea for closeness, for escape from the horror outside. Without a word, he climbed onto the bed, looming over her like a dark god. His heavy warmth enveloped her immediately, chasing away the chill that had settled into her bones. "Look at me," he commanded softly, his rough fingers cupping her chin, forcing her to meet his gaze. "Only at me." His lips descended upon hers, not with the brutal dominance of their past, but with a fierce, desperate hunger. He kissed her as if he were trying to pour his very soul into her, claiming her mouth completely. Aya gasped into the kiss, her hands winding around his thick neck, pulling him closer. She needed this. She needed to feel alive, to feel his heartbeat pounding against hers. Slowly, his large hands slid down her neck, tracing the sensitive skin where his marks of ownership still lingered. His touch was electric, sparking fires wherever his skin met hers. With a smooth, practiced motion, he slipped the straps of her silk nightgown off her shoulders. Red fabric pooled around her waist, exposing her pale, perfect skin to his burning gaze. Marcel groaned, a low, primal sound that echoed in the quiet room. "You are so beautiful," he muttered, his voice thick with desire. "My sweet, beautiful captive." His mouth moved down her throat, leaving a trail of scorching kisses along her collarbone. Aya arched her back, a soft sigh escaping her lips as his hands cupped her breasts, teasing the aching peaks. Every touch was a reassurance, a testament to his absolute devotion to her body and soul. Passion flared hot and heavy between them, erasing the dark reality waiting outside their door. He stripped off the rest of his clothes, his hard, muscular body pressing fully against hers. She could feel his desire, rigid and demanding, pressing against her thigh. "Please," she whispered, her fingers digging into his broad shoulders, her eyes pleading. Marcel smiled, a rare, breathtaking sight that softened his harsh features. "Always," he whispered back. Moving between her legs, he parted her thighs gently, his eyes never leaving hers. He entered her slowly, a deep, agonizingly perfect stretch that made her gasp and cling to him. Holding her hips with his strong hands, he began to move, his strokes long, slow, and devastatingly deep. Aya closed her eyes, riding the waves of intense pleasure that crashed over her. "No," Marcel growled softly, nipping her earlobe. "Open your eyes. I want to see you." Fluttering her eyelids open, she looked into his dark, intense gaze, filled with an obsessive love. They moved together in perfect harmony, a raw, emotional connection that transcended their dark beginnings. He picked up the pace, his thrusts becoming faster, harder, driving her closer to the edge. Sweat glistened on his forehead, his muscles flexing with every powerful movement. Aya cried out his name, her body tightening around him as she reached her peak. Spurred on by her release, Marcel let out a low groan and found his own release, filling her with his warmth. He collapsed against her, taking care not to crush her with his massive weight. For several long minutes, only the sound of their heavy breathing filled the room. --- Warm water washed over Aya's skin as Marcel held her in the massive marble shower. He washed her gently, his touch tender as if she were made of glass. "We need to talk about what happened outside," Aya said quietly, leaning her back against his chest. Marcel's arms wrapped around her waist, his chin resting on her shoulder. "There is nothing for you to worry about," he replied, his voice dropping to a dangerous quiet. "My men are already investigating. Whoever did this will pay in blood." "But you gave up your empire," she insisted, turning around to face him. "If they know where we are, it means someone close to you betrayed us." His eyes narrowed, a cold, lethal glint returning to his dark irises. "There are only three people in the world who knew about this villa," he admitted. "And one of them is already dead." Fear squeezed her chest once more, cold and suffocating. "Who are the other two?" she asked, her voice barely a whisper above the sound of running water. Marcel didn't answer immediately, his jaw clenching as he turned off the shower. Wrapping a plush towel around her, he carried her back to the bedroom. He dressed her in a soft, clean silk gown, then pulled on a pair of dark trousers himself. Sitting on the edge of the bed, he pulled her into his lap, holding her protectively. "One is my brother, Andre," Marcel said, his voice flat and emotionless. "The other is my former underboss, Viktor." "Viktor was fiercely loyal to you," Aya remembered, recalling the stern, scarred man who used to guard the mansion. "Loyalty in our world is a commodity bought with blood and gold," Marcel spat, his grip tightening slightly. "If Viktor turned, it means someone offered him a price he couldn't refuse." "And your brother?" she asked softly, touching his cheek. "Andre has always wanted my crown," Marcel admitted, his eyes darkening further. "He was too weak to take it by force, but now that I have stepped down, he might think I am soft." "You are not soft," Aya said fiercely, leaning up to kiss his jaw. "You are the strongest man I have ever known." A rare, genuine smile touched his lips, warming his cold features. "For you, I am whatever you need me to be," he murmured, pulling her head down to rest on his chest. They lay like that for hours, listening to the gentle crash of the waves outside. Despite the underlying threat, the physical and emotional bond between them felt unbreakable. Aya drifted into a light sleep, comforted by the steady rise and fall of his chest. --- Sudden vibration woke her from her light slumber. Marcel was already awake, his body tense as a coiled spring beneath her. On the nightstand, his burner phone was glowing in the dark room. No one had this number except his most secure contacts. Reaching out, his large hand grabbed the device, his eyes locked on the screen. "Who is it?" Aya asked, sitting up, her heart racing once again. Marcel didn't speak, his face turning completely pale, then settling into a terrifying mask of pure fury. He slid his thumb across the screen to open the message. Attached was a photo. It was a live security feed of their villa's living room, taken just seconds ago. Underneath the photo was a single line of text. "Did you really think you could run from me, big brother?" Before Marcel could react, the power to the villa abruptly cut out, plunging them into absolute, suffocating darkness. From the living room downstairs, the heavy wooden front door creaked open.
